Bistro Charlemagne

Antipolo, Philippines • Recommendation •

Bistro Charlemagne is one of the restaurants on top of my favorites list and one that I’m sure everytime I recommended or suggest it to friends, they will not be disappointed to try. Believe me when I say, that most, if not all, of their dishes, from appetizers to main dishes to desserts to drinks are really good. I have tried so many restaurants in my lifetime and I must say that Bistro Charlemagne is one of those that I totally enjoyed, dish after dish. I can only associate Bistro Charlemagne to great food. You might have heard of Bistro Charlemagne or might have dine at their Solenad Nuvali branch. The restaurant ventured to Manila and is now open at Ayala Malls Feliz and Ayala Malls By the Bay. The food that they serve here gives so much comfort and leaves a smile on your face. I love how personal the service too and that the crew are attentive and are very well versed of what the restaurant propounds. If you haven’t tried eating here, I’m telling you, you’re missing out! Must try dishes and also their best sellers are: Beef Tenderloin Rolls with Cheese, Drunken Lengua, Creamy Seafood Baked Rice, Ox Sisig and Shrimp Poppers.

Smoki Moto

1 save

Santol, Philippines • Recommendation •

Smoki Moto is located at the 17th floor of Clark Marriott Hotel in Angeles, Pampanga. It is a lively Korean barbeque and Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant with a modern cosmopolitan feel. It is a high-end Korean specialty restaurant that has two private dining rooms featuring Japanese teppanyaki where diners can grill their meal or have it done by chefs at built-in tabletop barbecues. Its beverage menu offers an array of premium wines, beers, sakes and crafted soju cocktails. I love the whole elegant atmosphere at Smoki Moto. They have an al fresco dining area overlooking the golf course nearby and the mountains. Inside has a very cozy and up-scale atmosphere. A few of the tables have built in grills in them for if you want to go for the Korean BBQ. At the far end of the restaurant is a bar and a bar seating area that overhangs 17 floors high. At night you won’t really see much down. But in when there is ample light, the floor is opaquely transparent. And the view here is also extraordinary since the wall is made of glass. I also loved that lighting fixture over the communal table where vintage lights are like tangled on a worn-out reclaimed wood. Must try are their stews: Kimchi Stew, Bulgogi Stew – they are something else and not the usual Korean stews that you get in other restaurants.

LA Bakeshop Main Branch

3 saves

San Fernando, Philippines • Recommendation •

L.A. Bakeshop The perfect first stop for an epic San Fernando food crawl that I joined sometime ago! We arrived in San Fernando at around 8-9AM and our first stop was LA Bakeshop which was very fitting, since what they have to offer, served as our breakfast. L.A. Bakeshop has been baking since 1985 and known as the home of the original Pinoy cheese bread. They have four branches in Pampanga serving different kinds of fresh breads and pastries for customers to enjoy in store or to-go. LA Bakeshop also offers good coffee and Batirol chocolate drink. My personal favorites are their cheese bread, cheese roll and Spanish bread. Their Spanish bread is by far the best I've tried.

Luz Kinilaw Inihaw Place

1 save

Davao, Philippines • Recommendation •

Luz Kinilaw and Inihaw Place I already read from other blogs that Luz Kinilaw and Inihaw Place is a must try when in Davao. But don't expect a fancy restaurant because it is just an eatery. The cab driver dropped me off in this row of establishments along and I immediately saw the signage. Well you can't miss it because of all the smoke coming from grills placed just right outside the eatery. And oh my! I was like in nirvana smelling all those smoke from the seafoods being grilled. They are very very reasonably priced as well, I actually think they are cheap. The tuna panga costs depending on its size and/or weight. The bigger ones are priced at PHP 500 and the smaller ones are PHP400. The bagaybay (tuna fish eggs) are fixed at PHP 220. The tuna panga's size is huge! Mine was just the smallest one but it already occupied the entire plate! I don't think you can get a tuna sized like that in that price anywhere else! There are still other offerings that I wanted to try like the sugpo (large shrimp priced at PHP 80 each), squid, Tuna buntot (tail). Didn't get to try the kinilaw (ceviche) though, maybe next time.

Cebu's Original Lechon Belly

1 save

Mandaue City, Philippines • Recommendation •

Cebu Original Lechon Belly Cebu Original Lechon Belly has lots of branches around Cebu and a few outside of the Queen City. When I was in Cebu, I got to visit their Parkmall and got to the two versions of their boneless Lechon Belly: Original and Spicy. It’s easy to fall in love with this dish as the pork skin was super crispy and then the meat was soft, juicy and flavorful. I am not a super fan of spicy food, but the Spicy version of the boneless lechon belly had just the right amount of spiciness and gives you that perfect kick. I personally like the spicy version because it has a distinct character. I also got to try their other offerings from Cebu Original Lechon Belly: Beef Stew and Lechon Dugo-Dugo. COLB’s Beef Stew is like Bulalo, but believe me if I say that it was, by far, THE.BEST.BEEF.STEW.I’VE.EVER.TASTED.MY.ENTIRE.LIFE… yes I’m saying that with so much emotion and with great enunciation. Seriously, the soup was thick and creamy and the beef flavor was so intense. Well, they slow cooked that stew for 6 hours together with the marrow, meat and bones. The beef bone marrow flavor was so pronounced, it sounds unhealthy but it was surely delicious. The Lechon Dugo-Dugo is equally tasty and is also one of the blood stew that I’ve ever tried.
