Glorious sunsets, glistening temples, and warm smiles are just among the many things that make Thailand golden
Bangkok
58 years ago food critic Thanadsri Svasticolumn founded a food column and awards called Shell Shuan Shim which recognized Thailand best food. Thanadsri died in August aged 93 and the organization has just announced its first winners for seven years! Here are the seven restaurants and food stalls recognized as the best of Bangkok. Some I've been to and some are now on my wishlist!
Located by Chula University, this restaurant became the talk of the town for serving... instant noodles??? yup, combining ramen into a tom yam inspired hotpot including shrimp, pork balls, squid, ground pork, eggs and lime.
113 ซอย จรัสเมือง Khwaeng Rong Muang, Khet Pathum Wan, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10330, Thailand
You need to book months in advance to snag one of the 15 seats at this home style restaurant in the Old Town. They are famous for their dishes including crispy squid, deep fried pork belly and crab roe soup.
310 ซอย บ้านพานถม Khwaeng Ban Phan Thom, Khet Phra Nakhon, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10200, Thailand
Thong lo is full of Japanese eateries but this Japanese chain gets the nod for it's super fresh ingredients, and top quality sushi and sashimi.
17, 19 Thong Lo 23 Alley, Khwaeng Khlong Tan Nuea, Khet Watthana, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110, Thailand
Opened in 2016 this restaurant led the farm to table trend in Bangkok with meats, cheese and wine from organic farms and artisan foodmakers. It also tastes good :)
Ground Floor, 39 Boulevard, Sukhumvit Soi 39, Bangkok, Thailand
One of the best places on Bangkok for a western brunch, spot-on egg dishes and all the variations on coffee you could want. Was founded by a group of Thai friends who missed the breakfast food they could get when they used to live in Australia. Gets packed at weekends.
75 Sukhumvit 38 Alley, Khwaeng Phra Khanong, Khet Khlong Toei, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110, Thailand
Bangkok's best mango and sticky rice is a bold claim! But this stall run by Pa Lek and Pa Yai might just have it nailed. The stall is only open for five months each year from January to May whem special Barracuda mangoes are in season.
Thanon Santiphap, Khwaeng Pom Prap, Khet Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10100, Thailand
