Located in TANGS Market on Orchard Road, Tiong Bahru Chwee Kueh gives you the convenience of having Chwee Kueh in between sightseeing and shopping. The price is slightly higher than the average hawker’s, but it’s worth it knowing how easy it is to get your hands on the chewy treat without leaving the heart of the city!
A Chwee Kueh is the perfect breakfast for when you’re running late and need a quick bite before you miss your stop. The best place to get these steamed rice cakes is the almost 60-year-old Ghim Moh, a Michelin Guide-recognized stall where just a bit of radish and chilli on your Chwee Kueh can get you ready to conquer the day.
Handmade by the owner every day, the Chwee Kueh from Ghim Mo is the closest you can get to the snack’s traditional version. Its storefront welcomes you with scrumptious rice cakes garnished with Chye Poh, which they mix with garlic and pork lard for extra flavor. Queues get quite long, even early in the morning, so remember to come with patience!
Jian Bo Shui Kueh is an institution in Tiong Bahru Market. It was recently recognized by the Michelin Guide with a Plate distinction, having satisfied several Singaporean generations with their fresh Chwee Kueh. Their Chye Poh, however, tends to hide the delicious taste of the radish we all know and love.
